Crystal Clear: A Blog About The Wonderful World Of Glass

I first fell in love with glass when I was ten years old. My mother took me to see a wonderful recital where the pianist was playing a glass piano. I was mesmerised by the way the piano shone and sparkled as it reflected the stage lights. I could never have imagined such a glamorous object. Ever since then, i have been fascinated by different types of glass. From stained glass panels to one-way mirrors, my eyes will always notice the glass fixtures in a room first. Recently, I ate at a restaurant in Japan where the entire floor was made of patterned glass. Needless to say, I was too excited to eat! This blog is for those who are looking for glass items and glass lovers like myself. I hope it gives you a peek into the wonderful world of glass and the options out there. Please tread carefully.

Benefits Of Sliding Glass Doors In Your Wardrobe

by Ellen Jokinen

One way to update your bedroom without going all-out is to install sliding glass doors on your wardrobe. Such doors completely transform the feel of the space. Here are several benefits.

Ideal For Small Bedrooms

Because they don't need swinging space to open, sliding wardrobe doors make the most of smaller bedrooms by maximising the existing space. They allow freedom in your room layout, as you don't need to arrange other elements such as beds or dressers accordingly. This is also an advantage, of course, in larger spaces.

Provides Vast Design Options

Wardrobes typically take up a large chunk of wall area, so why not take advantage of this by installing attractive glass doors? Mirrored, frosted or etched glass are some of the options, letting you customise the wardrobe to your room style. You can choose framed or frameless designs. Mirrors give a clean, modern feel. Frosted panels with black frames, sectioned into several smaller rectangles, impart a minimal zen vibe. In a more traditional bedroom, you could install decorative etched glass with organic foliage motifs or a simple art deco geometric design. Even though a wardrobe is functional, you can make a stylish design element of it.

Brightens Up A Room

A brighter space is always handy, especially in a bedroom where you need excellent illumination for grooming. Glass wardrobes help with this; they reflect light, making the bedroom feel more open and spacious. Mirror, transparent or back-painted glass is more reflective than frosted or etched varieties, but they all reflect light to some extent, though the effect may be more muted. Mirrors also add depth by creating the impression of space beyond, which visually doubles the room size. Ultimately, this reduces lighting costs by making the most of existing natural and artificial light. When positioned opposite or adjacent to a window, glass doors multiply the light even more.

Is Multi-Purpose

If you install mirrored doors, you won't need to purchase a free-standing full-length mirror. It's unlikely you would get such useful grooming aid from a movable mirror in any case, which isn't likely to be as low to the ground or as wide. Because of their breadth and depth, mirrored wardrobes are also useful in a gym or if household members dance or engage in other activities. They are also a great addition to a home office, or for closets in dark passageways or other dark areas of the home.
