Crystal Clear: A Blog About The Wonderful World Of Glass

I first fell in love with glass when I was ten years old. My mother took me to see a wonderful recital where the pianist was playing a glass piano. I was mesmerised by the way the piano shone and sparkled as it reflected the stage lights. I could never have imagined such a glamorous object. Ever since then, i have been fascinated by different types of glass. From stained glass panels to one-way mirrors, my eyes will always notice the glass fixtures in a room first. Recently, I ate at a restaurant in Japan where the entire floor was made of patterned glass. Needless to say, I was too excited to eat! This blog is for those who are looking for glass items and glass lovers like myself. I hope it gives you a peek into the wonderful world of glass and the options out there. Please tread carefully.

Cleaning and Protecting Your Shower Screen

by Ellen Jokinen

Is finding a solution for the scum-, fog-, and water-stained glass of your shower screen a challenge? If so, don't worry! Your shower screen might be subject to the mineral deposits from your shampoo's chemicals, hard water, body oils, soaps, or harsh scrubbing with various toxic cleaners. Since untreated glass might be porous, it can easily absorb these minerals and make cleaning even more difficult.

As such, you can easily create that magnificent ambiance when you step into your bathroom by following the following guidelines to clean and protect your shower screen.

Protection from Corrosion

Imagine how ordinary your frameless glass shower screen might look when dirty or when affected by glass corrosion. As such, to prevent the possible deterioration of your glass and loss of style in your bathroom, try using anti-corrosion coatings. These coatings might be abrasion resistant, chemical resistant, UV-stable or heat resistant. As such, they can protect your glass from the mineral deposits and other contaminants, which might prevent permanent degradation in the glass's form.

Stain Removers

You can also try using stain removers when cleaning your shower screens. These stain removers might reach deeper into the porous glass and remove any build-up of shampoo, minerals, hard water stains, and soap scum that might have settled.

Glass Coating

Glass coating can also assist you to solve your problem. If you decide to coat your shower screens besides the anti-corrosion coatings, try using ultra-thin and transparent materials to maintain the outlook of your screens. The benefit of this coating is that it can adhere to the surface of your screens and offer protection, which might repel both oil-based and water stains. Besides, your cleaning may be made easier, especially when you use only water with a dampened microfiber cloth and a mild detergent. In fact, you might not need to scrub using harsh toxic cleaners. Moreover, such coating and protection can even prevent the growth of bacteria and mould, promoting an environment that is free of germs.

Daily Cleaning

Even though following the above guidelines might be helpful in keeping a sparkling and protected shower screen, failure to make the cleaning a daily routine might be the reason your glass shower screens remain foggy and difficult to clean. That is, cleaning every day can reduce the chances of the mineral deposits and other chemicals from accumulating. As such, their removal might become quite easy unlike when they are left to settle in the pores of your glass over time.
