Crystal Clear: A Blog About The Wonderful World Of Glass

I first fell in love with glass when I was ten years old. My mother took me to see a wonderful recital where the pianist was playing a glass piano. I was mesmerised by the way the piano shone and sparkled as it reflected the stage lights. I could never have imagined such a glamorous object. Ever since then, i have been fascinated by different types of glass. From stained glass panels to one-way mirrors, my eyes will always notice the glass fixtures in a room first. Recently, I ate at a restaurant in Japan where the entire floor was made of patterned glass. Needless to say, I was too excited to eat! This blog is for those who are looking for glass items and glass lovers like myself. I hope it gives you a peek into the wonderful world of glass and the options out there. Please tread carefully.

Five Reasons Glass Splashbacks Are Superior to Other Décor Options

by Ellen Jokinen

When designing or redecorating a kitchen, determining the material of the backsplash can be challenging. Glass, tile, wood… the possibilities are seemingly endless, and each one comes with a host of pros and cons. But which is superior? You can be the judge, but below are the five reasons why you should consider purchasing a glass splashback.

1. Easy to Clean

No material is easier to clean than glass. A bit of spray cleaner and a rag are all that you need for a sleek, stain free look, and unlike tile, there is no grout to clean between or around. Even food messes or unwanted drips aren't immune to the power of a wet cloth, making glass the practical choice for the avid cook or mom with kids.

2. Color Choices

Glass can be fashioned in any color imaginable and comes in a variety of densities to ensure it suits your kitchen. Unlike tile that almost always comes in neutral tones, glass can be vibrant, exude passion, or even be multi-colored.

3. Resistance to Heat

Especially important when placed above the stovetop, heat resistance is crucial to a useful kitchen. A backsplash that could melt or deteriorate is no use in a high-traffic kitchen, but luckily glass does not fall under that category. Insusceptible to high temperatures, glass splashbacks are perfect behind ovens or grills, and quality kitchen glass will never change shape or color.

4. Reflection

Unlike tile, glass does reflect light, but this shouldn't be seen as a detriment because your kitchen will have never looked more inviting. Unlike the harsh light from fluorescent bulbs or synthetic lighting, glass will reflect natural light from your windows to make the kitchen warmer and seem more open. It is a comfortable, yet effective solution.

5. Easy to Replace

If your glass splashback ever does need replacing or perhaps you are just looking for a change of style, it is easy to replace. While tile and stone require tough grout and glue, glass is much easier to affix to surfaces and is therefore much simpler (and cheaper) to remove. You can change the color or pattern whenever you please.

Although interior decorating can be difficult, choosing a glass splashback should be one of the easiest decisions in your home improvement process. Its versatility speaks for itself, and it can adapt to almost any kitchen. Cost efficient, stylish, and easy-to-clean, it's basically a no-brainer.
